Rapid Transit
Great Northern Way Campus is well served by both rapid transit and express bus transit. Great Northern Way Campus will also be served directly by a rapid transit station on site as part of the future Millennium Line extension.
Biking & Walking
Great Northern Way has been designed to promote health, sustainability and accessibility. 569 Great Northern Way will feature expansive bike storage, bike sharing infrastructure and high-quality end-of-trip facilities, including change rooms and showers.
Location
Great Northern Way Campus is located in the heart of the False Creek Flats. Just east of downtown Vancouver, Mount Pleasant and the Olympic Village and west of Vancouver’s famed Commercial Drive. Great Northern Way Campus is an emerging neighbourhood that has evolved from its prior industrial uses & tidal flats into a creative and educational hub of art, design and technology.
Outdoor Spaces
Great Northern Way is surrounded by the parks and local attractions of False Creek Flats. Green spaces, paths, restaurants, and convenience retail appeal to local community and visitors alike.
University Campuses
Great Northern Way Campus is home to the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECUAD) and Centre for Digital Media (CDM). Vancouver Community College (VCC) is in close proximity, located just one kilometre east. This unique collaboration of leading educational institutions along with leading industry partners at 515-569 Great Northern Way will drive the formation of a vibrant, creative community.
Artistic Spaces
In close collaboration with ECUAD, Great Northern Way will feature unique and interesting public art throughout the properties’ public realm.
Equinox Gallery
Presently located on Great Northern Way, the Equinox Gallery is internationally renowned for its modern and contemporary exhibitions showcasing local, Canadian and International artists.
Adaptable Infrastructure
Great Northern Way is technologically scalable and features a fibre optic network and data network structure with capacity to accommodate large user requirements.
Sustainable Design
569 Great Northern Way is designed to LEED Gold standards, incorporating a number of green building strategies throughout. This includes capturing rainwater, connecting to the Southeast False Creek Neighborhood District Energy System and the use of regional and recycled materials in its construction.
Land Revitalization
Originally a tidal flat, the False Creek Flats were commissioned to be filled in 1915 to allow the Railway companies to develop new terminals after years of discarded industrial waste pollution in the area. For the proceeding 100 years, the Flats remained heavily industrial, with Finning International occupying the land now known as Great Northern Way Campus.
Health & Wellness
In order to encourage a healthy lifestyle, 569 GNW will feature a high-quality fitness centre, extensive rooftop decks with urban agriculture and community garden, and secure bike storage facilities. The large floor plates and inclusion of interconnecting stairs will also help promote active movement within the office building. 569 GNW will also contribute architecture and landscaping to the Great Northern Way community to ensure animated and attractive outdoor spaces, walkways, seating and bike lanes encourage a safe and fully accessible space for people of all ages.
Stunning Views
With roof terraces and an expansive roof deck, 569 Great Northern Way will feature expansive views of the snow-capped North Shore Mountains, Georgia Straight and bright lights of Downtown Vancouver. Future phases will also benefit from exceptional views, including towards False Creek.
Public Plaza
The Plaza will be a gathering place and interaction zone for students, staff, industry professionals and community residents to connect, creating a long overdue sense of place and community for this vibrant, creative community. Outdoor lectures, community classes, impromptu meetings and exploration of public art are just some of the activities animating the plaza throughout the year. The plaza also proceeds to ECUAD’s main entrance.
The Pavilion
The Pavilion at 569 GNW is an architecturally significant one-storey building functioning as the gateway to the campus, plaza and pedestrian spine. The Pavilion’s shaped timber roof contributes an interesting and unique design element to the plaza. The Pavilion will feature food & retail uses serving the community
Bike & Car Sharing
569 GNW will offer private and public bike sharing infrastructure, supporting the City’s city-wide bike share initiative, as well as 569 GNW’s natural connectivity and planned integration of the Central Valley Greenway on site. Car-sharing services will also be available. Once complete, GNW will be a major transportation hub that combines bike share, car share and walkability with existing and future rapid transit and bus transit connections.
